On Sunday, the women and men showed off their sporting prowess in the two Open categories and on Saturday, the juniors and all Master categories battled it out for the Almond Bears and victory.
The weather this year was once again very much in keeping with the spring season: rather cool, a little rainy with a few warming rays of sunshine. And it was a little better than expected, which is always good for the smooth running of the event, as fewer other Gurten visitors made the “pilgrimage” to the Ostsignal and back.
From just over 100 starting places, almost the entire tableau was full by the start of the tournament. Many Swiss disc golfers took part at the weekend on the Gurten. Stephan Müller was one of them. In the 2nd round, he achieved something that rarely happens: a pure birdie round! Wow. Müller took the clear victory in the MP40 category with par -26. Julia Burkhardt won the FP40 with par +7, Paul Francz was clearly superior with par -17 and 15 points ahead of his pursuers at MP50, walkie Fritz Hürzeler with par +6 at MP60 and Luke Ferro with par -1 and 10 points ahead of the runner-up at the juniors. On Sunday, Melanie Meuter won the FPO with par -5 and a 2-point lead over her rival Natalie Holloköi. In the MPO, the largest category with 40 players, the men had a close race. Sam DuCharme decided this with a par -22 and only 2 points ahead of third-placed Christopher Walker and only 1 point ahead of second-placed David Hüsler. Congratulations to all the winners!
Not only did the 3 tournament rounds on each of the two days run smoothly, but thanks to energetic helpers (even from other clubs) so did the set-up on Friday and the dismantling on Sunday. MERSIMERSIMERSI!
