Winterthur Open 2024

Last weekend, Disc Dimension celebrated its 20th birthday with the Winterthur Open as its anniversary tournament. In the end, 30 players in 7 categories competed for the DiscDimension anniversary prizes, as well as many other discs and Walesacos sponsored by MountainDiscs.

We knew the event to consist of three rounds with 13 lanes each, but this year there were several completely new lanes. Stephan and Felix took on the task of creating a small, elegant, yet challenging course that required a different throw at each lane. The results show that the course, along with the weather, was not without its challenges. Geni Odermatt managed to overcome the difficulties best, not only with the MP40, but across all categories. With his -9 over three rounds, he left all the other players well behind and won by a whopping 14 throws ahead of Philipp Rosenast and Domenic Balmer.

Valentin Vogt and Dario Flumini kept it exciting in the MPO until the last few holes – Valentin went into the last hole with a one-throw lead and secured the victory with a birdie on hole 13. Valentin also won the CTP prizes in two rounds, only Martin Jung got in his way in the second round and beat the third attempt by a whopping 56cm…

Heidi Poutanen and Mercédes Fritschi played against themselves and the weather in their categories – and earned the anniversary discs just for persevering. Jann Knüsel was the only junior registered in the juniors’ category. The second junior, Luke Ferro, had registered in the open category and secured 3rd place! Jann had to withdraw after the first round, soaked to the skin. Exhausted from the class camp, the wet conditions were too much for him.

Paul Francz, who had just arrived from the warm south, left no doubt and led the field in the MP50 category with ease, taking victory ahead of Peter Hüsler and Peter Fritschi. Turi Küttel achieved the same in the MP60 category, where only Werner Kuster was his competitor after a few withdrawals.

Although the weather presented everyone with major challenges, the mood was cheerful and exuberant and the radiant smiles of the winners were heartwarming.
We would like to thank all participants once again and congratulate the winners and runners-up!
